: unpopular opinion, I know, but why does tumblr seem to be SO…
There is absolutely no reason for me to get up on a soap box, especially when I have no one to listen to me 8D Regardless…
I… honestly don’t give a damn what other people do to themselves so long as they don’t come at me and start telling me that I gotta change what I’m doing. Live and let live, y’know? Despite this, there is one comparison I would like to draw. Namely, it has been stated a couple of times in these arguments that eating disorders of any kind are unhealthy, which I think could be agreed on. If something has been diagnosed by a professional as “disordered’ behavior then there is something going on that needs attention. If A girl is diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, however, people respond in fear, sadness, and pity for that person. If a person is diagnosed with compulsive eating, people tend to react in anger, frustration, blame, and disgust. I just feel like pointing this out.
I suspect the reason why people campaign against things like obesity, smoking, etc. is because it somehow effects them. Second hand smoke is both annoying as hell and more dangerous over long term because you don’t get the luxury of a filter. People didn’t previously care too much if you smoked or not, and once all this information came out about second hand smoke that was when all the picketing started.
Likewise with obesity etc. Yeah, okay, people would talk and are generally assholes, but until everyone decided “THIS IS DRIVING UP HEALTHCARE FOR EVERYONE ELSE RAAAAAAAAGE” no one was really protesting this shit.
I’m not actually wanting to take anyone’s side in this argument, because I don’t care. You have a right to feel the way you do for or against the subject at hand. There are good reasons on both sides. However I don’t think anyone can claim to be altruistic on either side, but then, I don’t feel it’s ever possible to be completely altruistic as I believe humans are inherently selfish.
Wait… what were we even talking about?
